Tree Planting

Trees & Plants Count

Because once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Our greenbelt is rich with trees, hedgerows, and planted areas that clean our air, support wildlife, and shape the character of our villages. But many of these are undocumented, and at risk from development.

Whether it’s a single oak, a quiet hedgerow, or a small woodland you walk through every day; if it matters to you, it Counts.

Log what you see. Help protect what we still have.

📝 How to Take Part in Trees & Plants Counts

  • Choose a location
Pick a spot where you can safely observe trees and plantation in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield or Grenoside.
Record (and where possible) take photos of the trees and plants you can see.

  • Submit your results using the online form
You’ll find a link to the form below.

  • Repeat as often as you can, and you can submit multiple forms
The more data we collect, the stronger our case will be.

  • Be honest and accurate
Record what you see to the best of your ability. Please don’t guess or exaggerate; this data could be used in formal planning responses.

  • Add any useful notes

You can include comments about recent changes (like tree felling or new planting), signs of damage or disease, nearby development, seasonal changes, or anything else that helps us understand the condition or value of the trees and planting you observed.

If you know the tree or area is part of a Tree Preservation Order, is ancient woodland, or is marked in council plans, let us know.

Have you seen birds, insects, or other wildlife using this area?

You can include anything else that helps us understand the context – for example, whether the trees are under threat, recently planted, damaged, or how they change with the seasons.
