Summary of Marie Tidball Meeting – Thursday 3rd July

We are aware that many local residents were unable to attend the invite-only meeting hosted by Marie Tidball MP at St Mark’s Church, Grenoside, on Thursday 3rd July. This meeting was also attended by Tom Hunt, Leader of Sheffield City Council.

To ensure all members of our community are kept informed, we have prepared a summary of the evening’s discussion. The document is available here: www.saveourgreenbelt.net/documentation

Anonymous Social Media Activity by Sitting Councillor

As you will be aware, it came to our attention a few weeks ago that a sitting Sheffield City Councillor had been posting anonymously in the 'Save Grenoside, Ecclesfield Green Belt Land' Facebook group. Following this discovery, action was taken, and the individual subsequently identified themselves as Cllr Ruth Milsom, Councillor for Crookes and Crosspool.

Further information regarding the content will be uploaded to this web page within the next few days: www.saveourgreenbelt.net/documentation

Community Concerns and Complaint Status

Members of the local community have raised concerns regarding the treatment of residents during meetings with council planners throughout the consultation period. These concerns led to the submission of a formal complaint to the council.

Although the initial complaint was not upheld, we have now escalated this matter to Stage 2 of the Council’s complaints procedure. We are currently awaiting a response.

Proposed petrol station on Cowley Way

There has recently been a planning application submitted for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in relation to a proposed refuelling and driver welfare unit on Cowley Way. The application can be viewed here: https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=SY24PENY0M900

We are aware that there have been significant volumes of objections to similar proposals in the past. Additionally, the recent opening of a new service station in Rotherham raises valid concerns about the necessity and impact of another such development in such close proximity.

We are currently preparing guidance documents for individuals and groups who wish to formally object to this proposal. These will be shared shortly and will include advice on how to submit comments, key arguments, and relevant planning considerations.
