History & Heritage Counts

📝 How to Take Part in History & Heritage Counts

Because the past still matters.

Our greenbelt holds more than trees and views, it holds stories. From old stone walls to ancient pathways, chapels, farms, and boundary markers, these features shape the identity of Chapeltown, Ecclesfield, and Grenoside.

Many sites of local heritage are undocumented and vulnerable to development.

If you know of something with historical value, no matter how small, it Counts.

Share what you know. Help us show what’s worth protecting.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Choose a location

Think about places in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield or Grenoside that have historical or cultural value. This could include old buildings, ruins, stone walls, boundary markers, mills, chapels, footpaths, or local landmarks.

  • Submit your results using the online form
You’ll find a link to the form below.

  • Repeat as often as you can, and you can submit multiple forms
The more data we collect, the stronger our case will be.

  • Be honest and accurate
Record what you see to the best of your ability. Please don’t guess or exaggerate; this data could be used in formal planning responses.

  • Add any useful notes

You can include anything else that helps: local stories, known names, changes over time, or how the site is used today.
