Traffic Counts
📝 How to Take Part in the Traffic Count
We’re asking volunteers to count traffic over a 7-day period to help us build a picture of how busy local roads really are. You don’t need to do every day or every hour, just as much as you can manage.
Here’s how to get started:
-
Choose a location
Pick a spot where you can safely observe traffic. For example, a junction, main road, or residential cut-through in Chapeltown, Ecclesfield or Grenoside. -
Select a one-hour time slot
You can do any hour of the day that suits you. Peak times like school runs or rush hour are especially helpful. -
Record for just one hour at a time
Set a timer if needed. Stay focused for that hour and log what you see. -
Submit your results using the online form
You’ll find a link to the form below. Please complete one form per hour counted. -
Repeat as often as you can over the 7-day period
The more data we collect, the stronger our case will be. -
Be honest and accurate
Record what you see to the best of your ability. Please don’t guess or exaggerate; this data could be used in formal planning responses. -
Add any useful notes
You can include comments about roadworks, diversions, weather, or anything else that might affect traffic during your count.
